London viewing of Alan and Pat Firth Collection
to be auctioned at Adam Partridge Auctioneers
Macclesfield 16th October 2015
An exceptionally important single-owner collection assembled by Alan and Pat Firth will be sold at Adam Partridge Auctioneers in Macclesfield on 16 October 2015. Alan, who died earlier this year, and his wife Pat, who predeceased him in 2012, regularly purchased work of high quality and sound craftsmanship from the early 1970s. Over the years they amassed an extraordinary collection of studio ceramics, together with a range of other craft items in silver, jewellery, glass, textiles and furniture, all displayed around their small bungalow on the outskirts of Leeds. Their collection was of such significance that the Firths were frequently asked to loan to important exhibitions in the UK and abroad.
Studio Ceramics Specialist Jason Wood, who is curating the sale, says: ‘It is one of the best collections to come to market for many years and is going to create a lot of excitement among experts, collectors and enthusiasts for studio ceramics and modern and contemporary craft and design’.
Part of the collection will be previewing in London at the CPA’s Contemporary Ceramics Centre, 63 Great Russell Street, from Wednesday 30 September to Friday 2 October 2015 (10.30am – 7.30pm).
Viewing of the whole collection will be in Macclesfield on Wednesday 14 and Thursday 15 October 2015 (10am – 8pm).
The online catalogue will be available from mid September; the printed catalogue available for purchase by the end of September.
