'Gete-mono' new work by Akiko Hirai

3rd of November - 26th of November

'The Japanese word ‘Getemono’ means unpolished peasant craft usually made with unrefined clay and by unknown potters.

In our modern society, because of the development of modern technology, we have tended to use mass produced factory-made tableware. This exhibition has allowed me to focus on creating the quality of ‘Getemono’ and to consider why such qualities of ‘Getemono’ still appeal in modern day society.'
